REVERSE MORTGAGES/MORTGAGE LENDING/INTERNET RESOURCES
Reverse mortgage programs can be puzzling to those intended to be served by them: Seniors (age 62 and up) with substantial equity in their homes. And some programs have been called downright abusive.
Recent articles in the L.A. Times describe important new resources for seniors and their families when considering a reverse mortgage. The first is an independent non-commercial website which allows consumers to comparison-shop reverse mortgage programs. Created by the National Center for Home Equity Conversion, the website is located at http://www.reverse.org.
The second resource is a book: Ken Scholen's "Reverse Mortgages for Beginners" (1998). The book comes highly recommended by Robert Bruss, the nationally syndicated columnist on real estate topics.
